Ethics Committee:

The central research committee acts based on Colciencias guidelines as an ethics committee with its functions focused on "considering all ethical aspects (use of information, protection of intimacy, and the right to withdraw at any given moment...); it may motivate the execution of a project, results, disclosure, possible effects, among others..., and an informed consent, which defines co-responsibilities for researchers and for Universidad de Medellin in a process to generate knowledge. Among them, the intention is to offer minimum guarantees to those individuals who participate in a research process".

Software registration is indispensable to enter into software contracts, especially when they are going to be transferred.

Universidad de Medellin has seven software registrations, submitted before the Colombian Copyright Office, DNDA (in Spanish, Dirección Nacional de Derechos de Autor), which are the result of an intersectorial alliance project development. These technological tools have allowed companies and academic processes to upgrade and make their activities more productive.

SPEER V 2.0: This is a project born from Tecnnova, thanks to the university's interaction with a company named Ingetesa S.A. This software allows a 3-D representation of buildings and other recording elements. It simulates lighting discharge protection volumes via the application of an electro geometric model, and with this system, electrical engineers and builders may identify the most adequate location to install a lightning arrester to provide a construction better protection.

The main researchers of the project are Guillermo González Calderón who teaches in the systems engineering program, and the General Manager of Ingetesa S.A, César Agudelo Osorio with the support of ARKADIUS research group. This service is marketed through the following web page: www.speerweb.com

TUTORING: This software allows the systematizing of Universidad de Medellin tutoring, as part of UdeM's "Quality Permanence" program framework which aims to reduce school dropouts. This work has been carried out under the leadership of the Head of the Basic Sciences Department, Dr. Jose Alberto Rua.

This work is the product of two research projects named Conceptions of Tutoring and Tutoring Practices as one of Universidad de Medellin's teaching styles and Tutoring as a teaching style in the city of Medellin. Currently, this software is installed on one of UdeM's platforms and professors use it.

CREDIT NEURO SCORE: This Software was jointly developed by the School of Engineers of Antioquia (in Spanish, Escuela de Ingenieros de Antioquia) and Cooperativa Belén (savings and loan) and its main purpose is to help finance sector companies make swifter decisions in matters concerning granting commercial loans. A client's score is calculated using the client's own data collected on that client's application form. Furthermore, it produces indicators that should support financial entity analysts when they decide if a loan can be granted, or if it requires further study, or if the application has to be denied. This system is based on smart credit rating.

Cooperativa Belén (savings and loan) is currently implementing this software, and the main researcher of the project is Professor Juan Guillermo Murillo Gomez, who teaches in the Financial Engineering program at Universidad de Medellin.

CALLABLE BOND: This software was derived from a research project focused on developing an approach to estimate and analyze structures at terms of interest rates and inflation to value bonds with a call option, issued by ISA, with maturity dates in 2019 and in 2026.

ISA (Power Company) is currently using this tool as a support to make decisions to determine the just value of bonds and the structuring and placing of other securities that have similar characteristics to current ones. This application also allows the creation of a bond with a generic type call option with specific characteristics users specify.

The main researcher of the project is Professor Fredy Ocaris Perez in the Financial Engineering program at Universidad de Medellin.

CONGO: This is Software developed in the framework of a research project named Interactive System as a Virtual Learning Object for the Democratic Republic of Congo. It consists on a pilot technology guided by the cycle of life itself (analysis of requirements, design, development and implementation). Moreover, it has been designed to support strategies proposed by the theory of mixed learning, which are centered on a combination of on-site and online activities.

The main researcher of the project is Professor Gilmar Rolando Anaguano Jiménez, who teaches at the Department of Basic Sciences.

SIRIRA: This software was produced in research projects named the Development of an automatic classification prototype for a recovery system of images of amazon aquatic ecosystems – (in Spanish, SIRIRA) and an image recovery system based on the content and handling of quality conducted at Universidad de Medellin in an agreement with Universidad de la Amazonia. This item is a pilot technology reference tool to collect images of amazon aquatic ecosystems, ICAPREA. The researchers of the project are professors Bell Manrique Lozada and Jaime Alberto Echeverri Arias, who work in the Systems Engineering Program.

REAGUDEM: This software was designed to record data regarding tutoring sessions in courses, grades and absences. Furthermore, it records the professors in charge of those tutoring sessions. This system generates frequency tables for the most consulted topics, tutoring evaluation, parallel between taking tutoring sessions and students' grades allowing a visualization of the effect they have on a student's performance among others

This tool is currently being implemented by professors at Universidad de Medellin, and it was created by researchers, Carmen Cecilia Sánchez Zuleta and Jorge Iván Londoño Marín at the Department of Basic Sciences.
