Innovation: Universidad de Medellin bases its criteria on COLCIENCIAS' definition of innovation. COLCIENCIAS is an entity that bases itself on UNE 166000 norms and on the Manual of Oslo, where they conceptualize innovation as incorporation by a corporate, political, social, educational, environmental and cultural product environment, and/or new or significantly improved services, processes or methods, with the purpose to increase their value.
Social Innovation: starting from CEPAL, Stanford Center for Social Innovation, Oxford Skoll Center for social entrepreneurship, OCDE and ANSPE's definitions, Universidad de Medellin conceives Social Innovation as a novelty action to resolve social problems generated starting from agreements and transference of knowledge from academia to the state, organizations and communities, in pro of human development and social transformation.
